Recent Saturn ads compare the 2007 Aura to the 2007 Honda Accord. Although the Aura is a solid sedan with an attractive base price, it does not provide the driving enjoyment, comfortable ergonomics, and overall value of Accord. Nor does the Aura enjoy the long-established tradition of value that Accord has maintained since its 1976 debut.
Accord has been selected one of Car and Driver‘s “10Best Cars” 21 of the 25 years that the award has been given, including 2007. According to the editors at Car and Driver, “It’s the family-sedan equivalent of a utility infielder who makes the all-star squad…when it’s not first in a particular category, it’s most likely second, and it is always at the top of the charts in fit and finish, ergonomics, road manners, reliability, and resale value. Stir in a high value factor, plus a strong fun-to-drive quotient, and you have the essence of Honda’s winning formula.”

Accord Is Legendary!
“The Honda Accord is a legend in the automotive world, renowned for its reasonable price, excellent build quality, powerful yet fuel-efficient engines, and high resale value – and that doesn’t even cover its exceptional reputation for overall pleasure of ownership.” (KBB.com)
Accord Offers Superior Fuel Economy (4-cylinder) and Performance (V-6)
Saturn’s ads boast that the Aura XE has a significant horsepower advantage over Accord. Closer inspection reveals that the ads compare the Aura, which comes only with a V-6, to the 4-cylinder Honda Accord Special Edition. Point out to your customers that, unlike Aura, Accord offers them a choice of 4-cylinder fuel economy with good performance or V-6 performance with good fuel economy.
While the Aura XE has more horsepower than Accord SE 4-cylinder, that performance comes with a stiff price: the Aura XE has significantly lower EPA fuel economy ratings (20 mpg city/30 mpg highway) than the Accord SE 4-cylinder (24 mpg city/34 mpg highway). Those consumers who regularly make a long commute will notice the difference at the pump.
- A comparison of the Aura XE to the Accord SE V-6 shows that the Accord has a significant horsepower advantage (244 hp vs. Aura’s 224) while providing comparable EPA fuel economy ratings (20/29 mpg for Accord vs. 20/30 for Aura). Additionally, Accord is 185 lbs. lighter than Aura, for better off-the-line acceleration.
- The Aura XE only comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Honda Accord Special Edition 4-cylinder and V-6 models both come with a 5-speed automatic. (Note: Accord SE 4-cylinder also offers a 5-speed manual transmission.)
- Note: Saturn advertising claims that traction control is not available on Accord SE. Traction control is not available on Accord SE 4-cylinder but is standard on Accord SE V-6. Accord SE Offers Superior Comfort and Convenience
- Accord Special Edition 4-cylinder and V-6 models both come standard with a 6-disc CD changer and steering wheel-mounted controls for audio and cruise control functions. Both features are optional on Aura XE.
- Aura has a noticeably smaller interior than Accord. The Accord Special Edition has more front and rear headroom, front legroom, front and rear shoulder room, and front and rear hiproom. Customers will find Accord’s spacious interior more comfortable than Aura’s.
- Note: A Navigation system is not offered on either Aura trim level. Customers who want the convenience of a Navigation system would do well to look at the Accord EX-L 4-cylinder or EX V-6 with Navigation.
